ABOUT THE COURSE
The Amazonas State University Master´s course in Science Applied to Hematology is in partnership with the Amazonas Hematology and Hemotherapy Hospital Foundation (FHEMOAM). It has an interdisciplinary and multi-professional character for the formation of Master´s students. It is the third Hematology Post-Graduate course in Brazil and the first in the northern region of Brazil, thereby permitting technical and scientific development in this field of knowledge. Besides this, it increases the opportunities for qualification and, due to the large demand for highly qualified professionals it offers an alternative to the scarcity of qualified human resources for this area.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The objective of the course is to provide an institutional base for the development of research as an action strategy for the solution of health problems here in the Amazon, as well as qualifying people for the development of research and for teaching Hematology. The course amplifies the teaching and research activities of FHEMOAM which seek to provide solutions to problems specifically related to Hematology and Hemotherapy by increasing the quantity of scientific investigations at the institutions involved.
THEMATIC NUCLEUS
The thematic nucleus consists of the agglutination of the research topics, thereby guaranteeing the consistency of the actions and results and the continuity in the production of knowledge and articulating academic production and knowledge building in the field.
EVALUATION AREA
Medicine II
RESEARCH TOPICS
The research topics represent agglutinating themes for scientific studies that are based on traditional investigation, give rise to projects whose results show affinity. The research topics configure the Post-graduate Program in Hematology and Hemotherapy.
AREA OF FOCUS
This is the natural definition of the area of focus, plainly identified as the activity of research and hematological and hemotherapeutic assistance developed at HEMOAM; it involves the study of blood disease in its diverse aspects, especially its physiopathologic bases and diagnosis methods, as well as quality control procedures and transfusion safety.
RESEARCH TOPICS
Topic 1 – Transfusion Safety
Hematology has as its objectives, studies that permit knowledge of the risks involved with blood transfusions, covering the screening of blood donors, the quality of the processes and procedures of blood conservation, the immediate and non-immediate consequences of blood and blood component transfusions and the epidemiological, molecular and genetic profiles of diseases transmitted via blood.
Topic 2 – Anemia and Onco-Hematology
Hematology has as its objective the study of epidemiological profiles, clinical, cellular, phenotypic, genetic and molecular alterations, red and white series diseases, as well as the aspects related to their physio-pathogenesis and treatments and give rise to projects whose results show affinity. The research topics configure the Post-graduate Program in Hematology and Hemotherapy.
